Debt collectors · Credit reporting · Validation
Disputed bill.Collectors calling anyway.
A bill you dispute doesn’t become valid because it was sold to a collector. Federal law gives you the right to demand validation of a debt, and limits how collectors can treat you. Credit reports have dispute rights too.

Questions
Collections on Disputed Bills, answered.
What does “validate the debt” mean?
You can require a debt collector to provide information about the debt and verify it. Timing matters: there’s a window after the collector’s first notice.
Can a collector call me at work?
Federal law limits collector contact, including at work when they know your employer doesn’t allow it. Write down every call.
